Please join us in an intimate dialogue with computational poet Nick Montfort on Tuesday, April 2nd at Harvard. Nick will give a talk entitled “The Truelist, Autopia, and Untitled [You] as Computing and Poetry” to the English Department seminar, “Poetry Machines.” Light refreshments provided.

Nick Montfort’s computer-generated books of poetry include #!, the collaboration 2×6, Autopia, The Truelist, and Hard West Turn. He developed the Memory Slam site of re-implemented classic text generators. His online collaborations include The Deletionist, “Sea and Spar Between,” and the Renderings translation project. In addition to computational poems such as “Taroko Gorge,” he has written interactive fiction including Ad Verbum and Book and Volume. He is founder and editor of Counterpath’s Using Electricity series, featuring computer-generated literary books, and also founded and co-edits of the Platform Studies series from MIT Press. He runs the micropress Bad Quarto and, through this press, publishes the online magazine Taper. His MIT Press books, collaborative and individual, are: The New Media Reader, Twisty Little Passages, Racing the Beam, 10 PRINT CHR$(205.5+RND(1)); : GOTO 10, Exploratory Programming for the Arts and Humanities, and most recently The Future. Montfort is professor of digital media at MIT, where he directs The Trope Tank. He lives in New York and Boston.
